Default Our duck is missing...some eggs left behind

about three weeks ago, the manager at the bar i work at found a duck's nest with about 7 or 8 eggs in it near the parking lot. we check on her several times a day. the last time she was checked on was when we closed about 12 horus ago, and everything was okay. this morning, the mom duck is missing. there are only two eggs left in the nest and one small piece of an eggshell. there are no other signs of the duck. is it possible that the other 6 eggs hatched and she will come back? should we care for the other eggs?

Heyas and welcome on board!

It sounds like that the other eggs hatched and 2 remaining ones are spoiled or didn't take, that's why mom left them. The other possibility would be that a predator such as a dog or a stupid kid got into the nest. Any signs of a struggle?

I'm not sure how long they stay good after the mom is gone, but I wouldn't mess with the eggs.

it confuses me because there are no remains of the eggs except one small piece...i would think if 6 eggs hatched we would see some egg pieces?? no sign of a struggle, but like i said, we work in a bar so i wouldn't put it past some drunk fools to mess with them

I have never seen a nest after the babies hatched..maybe the shells are like delicatessen to some animals. But I'm afraid the drunken fool explanation sounds more logical...however, we'll never know for sure I suppose...unless you see a momma with six babies walking by .

If you can find a bird rehabber they will sometimes take the eggs if the nest has been abandoned.
