Exclamation Request for Transfer for Ike's Squirrels!!

I just got a newsletter from the IWRC stating that just one wildlife center Houston received 730 squirrels. They are requesting rehabbers to come down there, donate stuff and/or accept transfers.

I offered to take in ten squirrels if they find a way to get them up here.

Here's the newsletter with the contact information:

Wow, what a day! After numerous phone calls and emails I finally got to the front end of the squirrel transfer business. This Sunday or Monday I'm going to get 10 infants and 10 pre-release grey squirrels. That means they can't be released here, since we only have fox squirrels here. Nobody knows how we are going to handle that one yet..we'll go with the flow I suppose.

I had put out a call for help and sent out a newsletter, because I figured if I have more enclosures and hands, I can take on more squirrels, because these are just the first wave that's coming up here from Houston, few hundreds of them are being delivered to the SPCA in McKinney, TX. They are sending a 100 to Alamaba, another 100 to Oklahoma and then distribute them to wherever they can, but the response has not been as they would have liked, they said. Still way too many squirrels and not enough rehabbers.

However, the local response was great!! The Tarleton University here in town has a Wildlife Society and they sprang to action when they heard of my efforts.

They are doing a fundraiser tomorrow at the football game and try to get stores to donate some supplies. They also want to assist in transporting the squirrels from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex to Stephenville AND help feeding too.

I also got a couple of online donations that will help get some material to build an enclosure, so hopefully we can build 2 more and take on more squirrels later. See how it goes with 20 first.

Wish me luck!

Thanks Sis! Just got word that I have to be in McKinney, TX (120 miles one way) at 11 am to pick up 15 infants at the SPCA of Texas. I also will be taking Chip along and drop him off at a rehabber with other coons, so he has buddies and I have more room. Gosh I'm going to miss that lil bugger! Experience have to wait until next time.

Now I have to find a ride up there!
