Default Re: Baby Squirrel pneumonia? Antibiotics information

You won't find cheap clavamox (or augmentin, or amoxiclav, whatever you want to call it, it's all the same drug). Amoxicillin, is cheap though, comparatively. Just be happy it's not baytril or clindamyicin.

Walmart sells amoxicillin suspension as a $4 prescription.

AMOXICILLIN 125MG/5ML SUSP (150ML BOTTLE)

or

AMOXIL 50MG/ML DROPS* (30ML BOTTLE)

You'll have to get your vet to write a paper prescription, which most are willing to do...especially if you are a frequent flyer like I am.

You can further stretch a bottle of amoxicillin suspension by asking the pharmacist to give it to without reconstituting. If you know someone with an analytical balance, or someone that works in a lab, they can seperate the powder out into say, five doses, which you can later mix in five seperate containers. This saves you from the trouble of paying for a new prescription each time, and it prepares an amount that is closer to what you'll use if you are working with neonates, without the waste.

I will ask my vet to do just that! I do get the Amoxil in powder form from them and have mixed it myself, tiny parts at a time which I never kept longer than 2 days. But the dosage of course was always uncertain and not steady.

4 bucks huh? You probably saved tons of lives with this information..THANKS!
