Default Bat houses?

Well, I live in a semi-country area, and have a lot of land around my house, so it's natural that we have lots of bugs.
Despite having a turtle, several frogs, tiki torches that burn citranella oil, birds, spiders, AND a skeeter vac, we sill have an amazing amount of bugs that try to eat us alive whenever we step outside. So, my family and I have been nurturing the idea of building a few bat houses, since they are the most effective for bugs and mosquitos (the biggest problem).
I've done some research and found several models that seem easy enough to build... the things we are concerned about is 1) if we will be able to entice them to live here for a while and 2) we have two cats, and cats hunt bats...

Anyway, I was wondering if I could have a bit of advice on keeping bats in the area, and if anybody has had any experience with them? I'd appreciate any feedback, encouragement, warnings etc.

I don't know much about bats, but we have a huge bat sanctuary here and
they have some good information on their site. Looks like your questions are
addressed there:

I would also make very very very sure that your cats and other animals are
always up to date with their rabies shots.

I'm very big on bat houses. Though you must take into consideration the climate where you live and whether the house should be in the hot sun. One guy is being charged with cruelty after all the bats died in his bat house.

So yeah, do the research. I'd recommend one though. Bats are great creatures

O_o' Wow.. I'd feel incredibly guilty if that happened.. we have a whole variety of weather here, ranging from 30 degrees celcius in the summer down to -35 in the winter. >< So I will definately take climate into consideration!!! Thanks for the advice!
