Default 14 Learning to lick from a plate.

[

Second litter of 09, 14 babies, learning to lick from a plate. Sorry the picture isn't real clear it's hard to get a picture of them all and keep an eye on them at the same time.. one can seperate from the pack and get lost in all the junk in my rehab room, they can run fast at this age.

OMG, that's an awesome setup! Totally adorable! How do you get them to each eat from a separate bowl!???!!?

I couldn't get mine to even sleep in the dog house full of fluffy shirts and rags...no, they somehow managed to fit into the squirrel house that I didn't bother to take down! There are 18 in the picture from 6 different litters and all different ages too.

And they kept it clean in there, unbelievable! After a week, the shirt that's on the bottom of the squirrel house still smelled like laundry detergent. Possies are pretty much the cleanest animals I get in here, at least at that age.

It takes some patience at first, but they catch on pretty quick, I just open up the cage door and they come running to the plates if two get on one plate I just move them back to their own plate; this way I make sure every one gets the amount of formula they need. I just moved them into their large cages I weeded out the slowest eaters and put them in one cage and everyone else in another for now. I will have to separate them again , but for now cages are limited, most of them are full of squirrels at the rehab center, so my 19 opossums are separated into 4 cages for now. Lets hope every thing stays peaceful here.

That is a lovely group of possums! They love to cram into tiny spots, I use old tissue boxes for nesting they all love to snuggle in the little boutique boxes, I just got a pouch from the NOPS that hangs on a hanger it should be large enough for the whole crew, I put them in there large cage 3 hours ago and they are still running around !

I have 8 possies about the same age. They are lapping from the bowl as well and they are also eating soaked cat food, fruits, and veggies. I just put a dish with as much formula as they want in it while I feed the bunnies (I have 10 cottontails just opening their eyes).

These little guys are eating their “peters food” gruel as I refer to it also, they love there fruit and veggies I just put them on their plates for their photo. Possums like baby squirrels will do any thing for their formula. If I get an escaped squirrel in the room who is already weaned I get out the syringe with formula in it and I get them back every time. With out a chase threw the rehab room. Kids love their milk!

I haven't had much luck with the gruel. My possums always seem to prefer a food they can pick up and chew. So, I cut them up some fruits and veggies real small and then give them soaked cat food and they like that. It is soft, but still whole and grabable, that's what they like. Well, and they LOVE yogurt! Yogurt and grapes always are the favorite foods of my possies.

I do not think there is a self respecting possum out there that does not love yogurt, we get in adult injured possums they will always eat yogurt!

I never had any luck with the little ones and just soaked cat food, I will give it another try, do you add the baby food and yogurt to it, that is for the very young ones 50 to 100 grams?

I got this baby to lap Esbilac mixed with Gerber rice cereal from the bowl. I only tube-fed once a day to make sure she's full:
