Default Racoons in the chimney

I have had raccoons living in my chimney for the past 7 to 8 years; it was cute and amusing at first, as we do not use this chimney. Now they are causing damage, they have knocked several bricks out of the chimney, we have a very tall house 3 stories so it is very hard to get up and fix the problem. My question is I know she has babies in there she does every year. When are they done raising the kids I want to get someone to cap the chimney but I want to make sure Mom and the kids have moved out for the summer, and not back in again for the fall. I know there is a brief time when nobody is in there any idea when I have not heard any babies lately but I am sure she has them in there.

Put a towel in the hole they are getting in or cover the top of the chimney, if the towel is not disturbed for more than 2 days nobody is in there . Coons will come our to get water within that time. Here raccoons can birth year round but its usually late summer/fall.

No, not really. I know how to raise babies, but that's about it. But the towel idea is great I think!
