Default 4 itty bitty ones

I got 4 tiny infants in yesterday with the eyes still closed. So far they are doing ok:

The one in front has some fire ant bites...I hope they'll heal up ok. What are ya'll using to treat those bites on such tiny babies?

Aww, poor little tykes. Luckilly, we don't have fire ants here , so I don't have any suggesstions for that.

The little ones look dehydrated though, are you giving fluids? Remember with opossums, you have to dillute everything with water, even their fluids. So they should get 3 parts fluids (lactated ringers preferrably, but if you don't have that then pedialyte will work) to one part water.

How much do they weigh?

I'm using a homeopathic tincture I got at the squirrel store for the fire ant bites. Works pretty good.

Yes thank you, I remember . They weigh around 25 grams.

25 grams sounds like a healthy weight for that size baby, so maybe they aren't dehydrated? Sometimes the little possums look dehydrated in pictures when they are really very healthy.

Good luck with the little tykes.

I lost one of them to the bloat, but the other ones have opened their eyes and drink from the bowl on their own. No more tube-feeding, yeah!

One looks thin in the picture, but they aren't..they all got full bellies and gain just fine . I'm happy with their progress:

Possums never seem to look right in photos. Glad to hear they are doing well. My 8 possums are nearly ready for release. This summer is just flying by, I can't believe it is already the end of July!
