WOW, yours are HUGE compared to my little guys. They are still not that furry and eyes closed tightly, probably won't open for a week or two! It is amazing how fast your squirrels grow up compared to the babies here. These guys I have now are right on for where they should be, so squirrels in Texas I guess grow up faster? They are super cute!

How interesting in that? I found that they grew up extremely fast too, but thought it was just me and my sense of time being screwed up a bit. I hardly ever look on a calender.

I was up to 10 already, but 3 didn't make it, were too far gone after a cat played with them. 2 are in foster care (yes, I finally found somebody that I'm training to be added to my permit as a sub!), so I'm down to 6.

But the season has just started.

How many do you got by now?

I am swamped beyond belief. I am finally to the point where I am FULL and have to turn animals away . It is hard to say no to a bunny knowing what will happen, but it is 10 times worse when it is a squirrel because you know they would be just fine. I currently have 1 pinkie that is struggling big time, the 8 that are the same age as your monsters but are just little eyes closed guys here, 4 bigger greys that moved outside but are still on milk once a day, a big foxer and a 8 week old foxer on milk 3 times a day, 2 opossums, 2 eyes closed mice, and 6 baby bunnies that are finally eyes open and eating a little regular food. I don't have a spare minute!

OMG hun, you ARE crowded!

I would be too, if I would accept every animal I get a call about. But most people call from Dallas and beyond (I live 2 hours west of Dallas) and they have tons of rehabbers and centers in the big city of course.

But most people insist driving to my place and wanting me to take care of the critters. Acting as if they'd do me a favor!

That has gotten so bad, that I decided that I have to restrict intake from critters in my county and the immediate surrounding counties and help the ones that call from Dallas to find a rehabber there.

I wish there were other rehabbers around here to take babies. Cleveland is the big city about an hour and a half from me and they have just one rehabber there and that center does not accept nursing wildlife (they say most aren't orphaned and they just won't help, they won't even take opossums from a dead mom ).

That's so sad, but everybody has to find their own line to draw and limits to figure out. I was faced with that too this year, as you know. It's part of the trade and reminds us that we are indeed not god and just hooman, hehe.

Here is a picture of my little guys from this weekend, you can see how much younger looking they are then yours are:

Your guys are probably already eating regular food, while my guys are being stubborn and don't want to open their eyes. I have had them for 5 weeks and a couple days, so they SHOULD open them soon since they usually open them at 5-6 weeks old.

Yep, you got it lol. I have 10 now and only one has the eyes not open yet. The 4 oldest ones are nibbling on Cheerios and pecan pieces and live outside.

I just moved 2 more outside, but into a different cage, because I have a huge problem this year with them suckling on each other and getting soiled. I tried the YUCK stuff, but it makes no difference.

I'm splitting them up in pairs mostly, but still...it's terrible! But other than that they are doing great.

You need to get some THUM and put that on them. It does the trick everytime. I have tried the YUK gel and it didn't make any difference, but with the THUM, they take one small suck and back off. It is for thumb suckers and you can find it in most drug stores. I put it on after every other feeding. You have to be careful if they have an open wound though, because it stings and they will lick it off themselves. I separate them out until they are healed up then put the THUM on and put them all together. Works well.
