They can't afford to treat anything, they euthanize 90% of what comes through there.

The kitten was found in the trash. He has just about everything wrong with him from emaciation to dehydration to infected eyes and behind, hair loss on the tail from being soiled by diarrhea and not cleaned for days.

My guess, a kid tried to raise him with cow's milk, didn't know or found it too yucky to clean the diarrhea it caused and then threw the kitten into the trash when it started stinking.

I'm flushing the eye every 2 hours with saline solution and put topical antibiotics in it plus I give him Amox twice a day. I hope it's enough. The picture shows improvement (!!!). The eye is now constantly draining, which is good, but I'm afraid it's a goner. Sure looks horrible and I know it hurts him, because he does try to paw on it once in a while and cries. But it got a LOOOOT better already.

The diarrhea has stopped, he is hydrated again and drinks his formula..we'll see.

That poor kitten! That story has me near tears and I've seen and heard much worse.

That picture is improvement?

MissD I have to say it's chances of that eye surviving are slim, I'm pulling for the little one though

Do you have any cephalexin to alternate with the amoxi? I think there are drops too but it's been a long time since I was a tech.

Like I said above, that little one is in my thoughts.

For the puppies I understand now, it's just more sad when it's puppies who might have had a chance at a full life.

So what did you name the kitten anyway?

I just pulled a bunch of maggots out of that oozing eye...that is the grossest thing ever!!! Any idea how to treat/kill those? I heard they only eat dead flesh, so they might not be the worst thing that happened?

That's not good!!!!!!! Have you called a vet?

The eye might have to be removed

I don't recall ever seeing anything like that.

I can't afford a doctor for myself! If I had the funds of taking every animal to the vet, then I wouldn't be writing this. I'm the last resort, if I can't help them, next step is euthanasia.

For now then flush with saline fluids maybe that will help.

You don't have a sponsoring vet there? The reason I assumed you did is for my rehab license I will need one.

Ya, I have a vet that works with me on wildlife if I need it, but that doesn't mean they do it for free..unfortunately.

I found more problems with the kitten, just when I thought it can't get any worse. He seems to have a birth defect under his tail, right above the anus there are 2 holes as thick as my little finger, infected and filled with maggots.

I gave him some Capstar, but that hasn't made a different. Capstar is save to give to squirrels, so I figured there's not much to lose with this baby, but no response so far.

In the meantime I'm flushing and picking off what I can, but most of them are behind the eye and deep inside these holes...it is the grossest thing I have been through yet!

I can't believe the kitten is still hungry and even kneading.

That poor thing is being quite the sport, I think he realizes you're trying to help him. That makes it worse.

I hate to say it but I'd almost say euthanasia would probably be best for him. The 2 holes really worry me which is why I say that.

Yeah, I'm at that point too. If he still has maggots in the morning or is even still alive at all and not doing any better, I'll take him in.

Ugh, Miss Dolittle, this whole post is just full of sad. I had gotten attached to those puppies, even from afar. At least they had a few fun playdates before the end.

I'm glad you're going gung-ho for this kitten! Even if it doesn't make it, like Michael said, it sounds like it knows you're trying to help it, and after the rough little life it's had, I bet that's a very good feeling. Kudos to you for being so brave and willing to go the extra mile for the little guy. I'm impressed at what you can handle doing!
