Default First one!!

Why did nobody tell me we didn't have a raccoon forum? Geeze! lol

Anyways, I just got my first baby in, eyes still closed. It's a girl, named her Bumble:

She isn't dehydrated or anything, so I started her on diluted Esbilac...she sure was hungry!

She is adorable!!! I like her name too that is cute. Now you're in for lots of fun!
I haven't gotten any late babies so it doesn't look like I will have to overwinter any this year. I think all mine will be ready to go in September. The release site is on a ladies farm and she puts food out for the babies and allows them to come and go from a cage/barn until they decide to venture off on their own. I really like that since in the wild coons don't leave mom until they are 1.5-2 years old. We throw them into the wild to fend for themselves at 6-7 months so I think this lady makes it easier for them.
I need to get new pics of my 9 babies I guess, they have gotten huge!
Have fun with your new baby MissD and don't be afraid to love it alot. She will wild out just fine but right now she needs to think you are her mommy so you can teach her how to behave.

They stay with mom that long? WOW!

She's fussing a lot and gags when I want to feed her. I tried a kitty bottle with different nipples, syringe, but boy, she is not happy about that milk. 5% of her body weight per feeding? Every 4 hours?

Now what about de-worming and the roundworm scare? Any other precautions?

She's 150 grams by the way.

Is she getting a suction on the nipple. With the coons you have to put a finger on either side of their mouths when they are sucking on the nipple to help them latch on. Is she choking on the formula like gagging or just gagging?
I worm my coons the same day I get them and then every two weeks until release. I just use a liquid cat wormer from walmart to TSC. None of mine have had worms but its better to be safe.
You could try adding a little corn syrup to her formula, one of the ladies I work with does that. Maybe she just doesn't like it watered down either. I wouldn't water down my milk before drinking it, that's gross . Mine loved the goats milk but would drink KMR also. I never tried Esbilac because I didn't need to.

I think we figured it out. She just wasn't hungry enough to bother and it was all so new and gross lol. I'll give her a dosage of the dewormer then too. THANKS!

That poking into the sides of the mouth works with everything, doesn't it? hehe

Bumble is a HE by the way!! I think! I'm so used to the very prominent part of the squirrel where there is really no doubt..if yout gotta male, you'll know you gotta male! LOL

In any case, we are doing great here! Gaining weight, peeing, pooping, and fussing accordingly! I'm having fun .

Wow he is a cutie!

Oh, Ms.D, I think I said something about a coon forum before and you told me to use the "other" area :P

EDIT: AHA it was a squirrel forum that I had asked about, not raccoon. Sorry.
