Exclamation Video of how to feed a baby squirrel

It's not the best video, but it gives you a visual on how I feed the squirrels.

Some Do's and Dont's
  • It is very important that the nipple points upward towards the roof of the mouth and the squirrel is upright.
NEVER put a squirrel on his back while feeding (or any other animal for that matter) and STOP IMMEDIATELY if you see formula coming out of the nose. This can cause pneumonia and end up fatal. Been there...it's not a pretty picture, at all.
  • Use a small syringe, start with 1 cc if the squirrel's eyes are still closed and never use a larger syringe than 5 cc. Rather re-fill it often than risking aspiration.
  • NEVER feed cow's milk to an animal, that includes scalded and canned/evaporated milk!

Any other warning points I should add? Let me know..lets create a little warning list and make it a sticky.

I like to wrap the squirrel into something soft before feeding, so it feels a bit safer and makes it easier on me with the wiggling:

This is a movie with feeding the so-called "pinkies", squirrels that have no fur yet. These 2 are just starting to turn dark:

Hi!
Thanks for all the help. This new little one is eating small doses. He only has the two tiny bottom teeth and doesn't seem to want much formula, but I will keep trying.
We named him "Moses" and his tail doesn't have much fluff at all. Moses is very active and sleeps quite a bit. I've been carrying him around in my overall pocket wrapped in a cloth and keeping a hot water bottle underneath the bib to make sure he stays warm. Have a little cage set up in the bedroom with a heating pad but when I put him in there 3 times today he crawled out of his cloth and was hanging on the front of the cage. He's so little. We looked outside for his mom and didn't see her and there are several nests near where we found him.
